You Want To Know Something?

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

Hi! My name is Joelle and standing next to me is my husband Elvedin (we call him Eli). We live in a small town in North Carolina. A town that keeps to itself, but at the same time welcomes all. We used to live in Colorado a few years ago, where we had a million things to do and too many places to eat! My husband likes going to the same places because he is picky and once he finds a place with some dishes he likes.....then it's no to everywhere else! Me on the other hand...I love trying new things! I am tired of eating at the chain restaurants, where their servers don't really know what customer service is and they overcharge for everything! However, both my husband and I have always loved trying food trucks...weird right because he is picky! I guess after being together since the dinosaur age, I am rubbing off on him!

People bond over food (like these crazy kids and their grandma at Thanksgiving a few years ago). This is where my husband and I have some of the weirdest conversations.....if I told you what we talked about you would think we are crazy! Haven't you ever heard the saying "the best way to a persons heart is through their stomach"? We live by that motto, thus our bonding begins!

When we lived in CO, we would get so excited about food truck festivals and other carnivals and celebrations that we know were going to have a good variety of food trucks. At the same time, it was also a bummer because we would want to try so much but either we didn't have enough money (because lets face it, food trucks are not cheap) or we were full from eating at other food trucks. One thing we also noticed, food trucks were always seeming to come and go. I'm not sure if they were going out of business or if there really are that many food trucks around. Where we lived in CO, food trucks were always at the bigger businesses and parked in downtown Denver, but rarely the same ones. Either way, we don't feel like people are that hyped up about them like we are.

Now being in NC, we hardly saw any food trucks....only because we weren't really looking for them. I worked in downtown Greensboro and I only saw them sometimes if there was no festival going on. I know that there are other stationary restaurants where people like to sit down....but food trucks are small businesses that are trying to survive as well so why not throw them in the competition right? Here is where I saw that food trucks travel from all over NC and I even met a couple food trucks that travel around the country!

If I could travel around the country doing something I loved, I would totally do that....especially if I was making money from it! I mean, who wouldn't? Ok, I actually know people who wouldn't because they don't like to travel...but that's ok!

You remember that bonding I was talking about over food? That is where this idea happened. Did I mention that both my husband and I love food trucks??? Just in case you forgot, we do! We started finding more food trucks that were going to be in the area and I started keeping an eye of festivals that were happening around us. I started liking lots of food trucks on Facebook then.....boom! We decided that we wanted to be food truck critics!

There are restaurant critics everywhere but you hardly come across food truck critics. You find tv shows about restaurants...one of my favorite Diners, Drive Ins and Dives....and people watch those and then people visit! Trust me I know, I am one of those visitors. Some food trucks are owned and operated by a stationary restaurant and some are stand alone businesses. I am all about supporting small businesses and I don't feel they get the recognition they deserve.

So....what is our plan? We will travel across NC on the weekends (unfortunately we work on the weekdays....bummer right?) following different food trucks, trying some of their food and posting a review on this blog! Our long term goal...travel the country following food trucks and get paid for doing that (long shot but setting goals means you are working towards something you want). I can imagine we will be like Guy Fieri...with double the energy!

Oh and in case you haven't caught on yet, these random pictures are of my family! I thought it would be fun to have something to look at, to get a sense of our life and personalities than just reading what I have to say. I hope that you will join us in our journey and even recommend places to try! Thanks for reading! #foodtruckmania
