El Torito Taqueria

We were super excited to try this food truck! We have passed it several times and they always have a line. So we thought they would be good.

In the triad area where I live, for some odd reason it is very difficult to find decent Hispanic food. I don't know why, but it is very disappointing because Hispanic food is my favorite! Plus, I think it is probably the healthiest food on this earth!

Now I did have a hard time finding their tags on facebook and instagram (the ones posted on the passenger door). The only one I found, that is a restaurant, has the same logo this truck uses. But when I search by phone number, this one shows up.

Figures, by the time we make a u-turn and pull in (they are always parked at a gas station on west gate city blvd), the line is gone. But hey, that's good news for me! It means less wait!

Honestly, we wanted to order everything on their menu, but hey, we aren't rich! So we ordered our favorites and items we know the kids love and will eat.

First up, pupusas. If you don't know what these are, it's stuffed corn bread (not the type of corn bread you are thinking of). We ordered 2 orders of those because we LOVE pupusas!

Well, apparently, we only love good pupusas. These were so bland! They were stuffed with cheese and pork. No options for anything else. Eli said they tasted like cardboard. I would not go that far. All of the ingredients are there, it just needs some salt, pepper, cilantro, cumin...and a whole bunch of other things to make it have a taste!

The slaw salad they served had some flavor, but I think that was because of the vinegar. I don't think anything extra was added to it (salt/pepper).

Even the salsa and hot sauce they served where so bland!

Eli said, if he didn't pay for it, he wouldn't be eating it. He called our friend in CO right after and complained. Our friend owns a restaurant called Mile High Pupusas...so far, we have not found any that are as good as his, which is so disappointing because we don't live there anymore!

The next thing we ordered were chicken tacos. They were served on corn tortillas. I bought 2 of them and that was 2, too many. The first thing that went into my mouth were those onions on the side. All I could taste was the oil. Then I tried the jalapeño and it was cold.

The chicken had no flavor. It looked like they might have stuck some pepper on it, but not enough to give it good flavor. I squeezed the lime on it, hoping that would make it eatable, but it didn't. I honestly waited till we got home so I could put some salt on it myself so I could eat it!

We ordered shrimp tacos as well. Same experience as the chicken tacos. Except I am confused why they would not dice the tomato? Like, put some pico de gallo in there!

Oh they gave us pico de gallo on the side...gross. I don't even think they squeeze lime into it themselves..or put jalapeño, or put cilantro. All I could taste was tomato!

We were also disappointed that these were on flour tortillas and not corn like the chicken tacos.

We also order 2 tamales. Well they aren't pictured because Eli ate one before I could take a picture and the second one had some green slimy stuff on it so I threw it in the trash. I know, I should have taken a picture, but was so disgusted I washed my hands before touching anything else. But, that's ok because Eli said the tamale was the driest, most bland tamale he had ever eaten...you guys, we love hispanic! WTF is wrong here!?

The last thing we ordered was a chicken and cheese quesadilla. Well they put lettuce and onions inside this quesadilla. First of all, I said chicken and cheese only.

Second, I mean I could deal with the onions, but who the hell puts lettuce in your quesadilla? Don't you know lettuce gets soggy? It's not meant to be cooked. It's meant to be crispy!

There was a lot of cheese, which was good and helped make up for lost flavor. Yes, it was bland too.

I want to complain a little more...yep, that's right. When you are a food truck, you should be properly equipped with to go boxes. ESPECIALLY, if you don't have tables and chairs sitting out somewhere for your customers.

We received everything wrapped in crappy (thin) foil on a flimsy styrofoam plate. When you open it up, which was not even covered that well, the condensation drips everywhere and we even had water/oil leakage in the bag they put it all in. Now, I am not saying condensation does not gather in those styrofoam to go boxes, but at least when you open those kind, it has somewhere to go besides on you.

Here is the cherry on top of it all. So the line had gone when we pulled in, just those 3 guys in front of us. You know how long it took for us to get our food? OVER 30 minutes! Like, what? I am not in a sit down restaurant and a food truck should never have a wait time more than 10 mins, maybe 15 if you are at a food truck festival!

I feel so bad because they have really good reviews. So I am wondering if they just forgot some seasonings today or what, because their truck says "proudly serving best Mexican food in Greensboro, NC"? We want to like them and recommend them so bad, but we can't.

One positive thing I do want to say, when you order, the lady repeats everything in English and in Spanish, except for the price! If you don't know a little bit of Spanish, well learn because it's fun when other cultures try to teach you a little something! All I understood about my price was 30 something lol! #foodtruckmania
