You know that song by Jason Derulo, "Whatcha Say"? I totally have that song in my head writing this because of the name of this food truck! Spelled differently, but one of a kind and I love it!
When we first arrived, we were a little confused that this food truck was in front of a church. Then while we were waiting a man pulled up and asked us if this was the place they serve food to the community? Well come to find out, the man who owns this food truck is the Pastor at this church...so I guess you could say he is feeding the community....everyone's got to survive somehow, right? I did take a look at their website and I didn't see anything on it, but I did see that they regularly partner with non-profits in the community. Coming from the non-profit sector myself, that usually means they help with fundraising events, which is amazing!

The first thing you see when you pull up is their drive through. They said it's for the customer convenience not to have to park in the back parking lot and then walk over there because they are right off a busy street. Because COVID-19 is happening right now, I think that is very thoughtful and very practical. Plus for us, it was a cloudy, half rainy day, so that was very convenient for us!

They have a lot of options for a food truck...but when you need some SOUL food, it's great to have more than 5-6 items because your soul needs so much more....and God knows right now, I need me some soul food, so we ordered several dishes for just the 2 of us!
One thing I want to mention before we move on is, when we try all this food, we eat every single part individually to see if they are flavoring at all levels. We pay a lot of attention to texture and if flavors merry well together. Most of all, can we feel the love they have for their food. It's not a one bite deal, which is also why we order several things and don't base it off a one and done.
Up first....Wutya Shrimp with fries.....

Eli ate this up! The shrimp were not overly crispy, where you are wondering if there is even shrimp in there. They were great. The fries had a cajon type seasoning on them, which I loved. For me however, I thought the shrimp were a little too salty and I hate saying that because I like foods on the salty side. The fries, I wish were a little more crispy because I like crispy fries, but for Eli, he like them like this because you can taste more of the potato. They did load us up with all kinds of condiments, but I usually only use that when things are lacking flavor, and this dish was not.
Up Next.....the Demon Burger......
I think the name of this burger is fun and that's why it attracted me...don't be scared! This burger is loaded with flavor! The onion rings have a thanksgiving taste to them. Let me explain. You know when you cook a turkey and you have all those drippings in the bottom of the pan to make gravy? It tastes like that! Fried goodness from a turkey! I'm not saying that hoe they fry these suckers up, but I wouldn't be surprised! The bun was toasted, which I like so it doesn't get soggy. Their jalapeño mayo was awesome, I just wish it had more spice to it (I love spicy food and have an extremely high tolerance to spicy food)! This is a pretty big burger, so I had a hard time finishing it all. Eli thinks the mayo was good and the patty was good as well.
I just had a couple of issues. First, the burger as a whole is really greasy. My hands were soaked in grease. I am guessing that is probably from the bacon and freshly fried onion rings. I liked the tomatoes on there, but I actually feel this burger could go without the mustard. For me, mustard is used to add to the flavor, but I feel the jalapeño mayo was sufficient for it. The lettuce on the other hand, I had to take off because it was soaked in grease it wilted really bad and I feel was not edible. Last, the bacon. I don't usually eat bacon from a pig, but I feel it should have been more crispy (there I go again with my crunch)!
Third....Mac Brisket.....

I thought this was a fun spin on the regular mac and cheese, which I never order from anywhere because it all tastes the same. But these guys added brisket so I thought it would be fun to try!
I'll start with what Eli said....he cracks me up and one day we will start recording ourselves so you can see first impressions. He said his mouth was confused lol! He didn't like the 2 distinct flavors mixing together, then to add bbq sauce to it, he said just didn't feel right. One thing I would like to know, is the bbq sauce homemade? I forgot to ask because here in NC, they take their bbq sauce very seriously...so much so, they have a million different kinds that are made right here in NC!
Me on the other hand....I loved it! I loved the 2 different flavors! It took the mac and cheese up a step and was not boring! The brisket was so perfectly cooked (I have had dry brisket before and you can't even eat it). Their brisket melted in my mouth! The mac and cheese was made from real cheese. Not that fake Velveeta crap or flavor packet you can buy. I love homemade food...I mean soul food!
Lastly...Fish & Shrimp Combo.....

Since I mentioned the shrimp earlier, we won't talk about it again. The fish was good. I still think it was too salty for me, but not as salty as the shrimp. It could be the fish soaks it in better. The baked beans were great. I did ask if they were homemade and was told they were...but I really am not too convinced of that because they did taste like they came from the can. I will say it looks like the added either green pepper or jalapeño to the beans because we did see some green in there. Not too much, though and they were super tiny which is why we are not entirely sure what it was. Eli loved the beans! The coleslaw on the other hand was amazing! They put their own spin on it and I could definitely tell it was homemade. They added sweet relish to it and I don't think it had carrots. I don't eat a lot of coleslaw because I feel it has too much mayo, but this one, I could not even taste if it had mayo! So I ate this all up! Poor Eli doesn't like coleslaw so he wouldn't even taste it...so he missed out.

They did give us some of their sweet tea, which they call "crack tea" lol! I don't think it has crack in it, but I do think the sugar alone in it will crack you a cavity eventually lol! I am not used to southern sweet tea still, but I will still drink it because I love tea and have a huge sweet tooth!
Overall, we think the food has a lot of good flavor. There were a couple of bumps, but that's ok. The customer service was good (and I really liked how they sneak the tip in there by saying "you want to tip 20%, it's only $11")! We will definitely go back and we encourage you to follow them on their Facebook page where you can get access to their website and read all the great things about them. #foodtruckmania
