Welcome to Big Cheese Truck

Ok, I am not gonna lie....I have been at this food truck before we started our adventure of rating food trucks. I was not impressed when I ordered from them the first time and Eli...well he said everything looked weird so he was not about to try it.

I don't remember what it was called that I had, but it was cauliflower florets and cubes of cheese. Not any kind of cheese that I have heard of. When I ordered it, I was expecting a sandwich and what I got was an over priced snack, that I didn't even eat all the cheese. The cauliflower was good, it was fried, the cheese was also fried but had a very different texture than most of the cheese I have had (plus I thought it was weird that it held up to oil frying). I don't have a picture and when we went this time around I didn't see it on the menu....leading me to think either they change their menu options often or it wasn't a popular item.

Either way, I am glad that we gave it a second chance! Now I will say both times we were there, the men making the food were very pleasant. They are happy to explain what their items are and you don't feel rushed to make up your mind (and they don't seem annoyed while you are there acting like a fool)!

Both times we were there however, the menu was hard to read. The dry erase marker was coming off, which is another reason why we had so many questions because we could hardly read the menu. The first time they did have menu handouts, the second time I did not notice any. So I found a menu online that looks more realistic than what their website offers on its menu.

We only ordered 2 things, which is not usual for us but you can understand why we were hesitant. They also have a daily special menu, which duh, changes daily. They specialize in having different cheeses, which is also why I think they change out their menu. It's good to have variety, but it also looks like they keep a lot of the same cheeses (hey if it works, keep them coming)!

This first order is the Truck Burger. First of all, gouda is bomb cheese! It is my favorite because of the smokey flavor it has. We never had pimento cheese until we moved to NC...it's not bad but I call it parmesans confused cousin lol! It tastes a lot like it but it's more like a spread. This burger also has a fried green tomato...we never had that before. It also has tomato jam...we thought that was weird but we didn't opt to take it off because, why not?

Like I have mentioned in other blogs, we taste everything apart and together. Apart, it is all good...together it is all good! The favors merry very well together. The bun was nicely toasted so it didn't get soggy and the burger was not dry.

The fries as well....awesome! They were perfectly crispy and whatever they were tossed in before frying, made it even better. They supply you with ketchup (did not have to ask), which we didn't even use because the fries we so good and we didn't want to drown the flavor with that red crap!

The second thing we ordered was Niki's Pickled Brine Chicken Sandwich. This actually came with 2 chicken breasts (actually i think it was one cut in half). Both were equally coated and fried. They were so crispy! I'm not even 100% where they put the cheese because it was melted all over the sandwich...which made it that much better! I tried to eat it with the pickled onions, but I couldn't (I'm not a fan of pickled onions and I don't know why because I love onions in everything).

Eli liked this sandwich as well and it was perfect for him (minus the onions) because it din't have all the extra stuff on it that I would normally get on this type of sandwich. What would I normally like? Tomatoes (fried green tomato would have been perfect) and even a jalapeño...ok I like spicy stuff. But apparently, this sandwich and that burger are 2 of their popular items....I'm just being picky because I like more than meat on a sandwich.

Portion size was good, especially for the price. Eli eats a lot and he could barely finish the burger (it might also be because it's a heavy meal with several fried items).

One last thing I want to mention....they use cardboard take out boxes (that also say thank you on the inside), not the typical styrofoam that everyone else uses. These boxes are much better for the environment because you can throw them into the recycle (you can only recycle styrofoam in certain places). So kudus on that!

In this rating, I am also rating them on the first item I ever ordered because we rate as a whole (plus it was only like 2 months ago)...thank goodness we went a second time and I would also encourage you to try them out! Here is a link to their facebook page where you can like, share and see where they are at next. Here is the link to their website. #foodtruckmania
