We were really excited to try this food truck again! We had them before we started rating food trucks. I don't remember exactly what we had, the only thing I remember was their stew. When I asked what was in it, they said everything, but in a way that made it sound like it was going to hit my soul! It was so yummy!
This time around when we went, they didn't have the stew, so it makes me think it is either seasonal or they swap menu items every so often. Either way, I was disappointed, but that's ok...there is nothing wrong with a craving because that makes you think of them and go back another time!

I really did like how most of their meals include a drink. I know I have said before that when I order a meal, a drink should be included. To me, it only makes sense because you naturally need something to drink when you are eating.
Their menu items are simple and to the point. When you order, they ask you what you want on your hamburger or hot dog. I like that because some people just assume nothing so it is plain when you get it. That creates good customer service and helps eliminate food waste.
In regards to price, I think they are fairly reasonable. Even the stew we ordered the very first time we went there, it was only $8 and it came in a huge container and was enough for 2 people.

This meal is their ribs with coleslaw and beans. I was disappointed that there were only 3 ribs (I prefer even numbers...I have a weird thing about odd numbers). They also did not have a lot of sauce on them, which I was disappointed in as well. However, these ribs actually had a lot of meat on them. I also think they had brown sugar on them. They were crispy in some areas and tasted sweet, but not overpowering. Eli also liked the ribs but he couldn't taste the sweetness that I was tasting.
Before I ordered, I did ask if their beans and coleslaw was homemade. I was told yes, but I did see a can of Bush's Baked Beans in the back. They actually taste like Bush's Baked Beans however, they did add their own twist on it. They put green peppers and onions in it. I really liked that. I like how you can take a canned item and turn it into something of your own. Eli was not a fan because the onions were too chunky, and they still had a bit to them.
In regards to the coleslaw, it was different. I still don't know how I feel about it. It was very saucy and had bigger chunks of cabbage than I am used to in coleslaw....but I'm not really sure what they put in the dressing. I mean it wasn't gross (my daughter did not like it). It was definitely mayo based but didn't taste sweet like many coleslaws do. It wasn't my favorite coleslaw, but not my least favorite either. I would definitely say, this one is a one of a kind and you will have to taste it yourself.

This is their sausage dog with fries. Eli said the casing over the sausage actually made it really hard to eat. That obviously is not their fault (unless they make their own sausage). He did like the the taste of the sausage though. He ordered his plain but then stuck some ketchup on it from the little packets they provided.
As for the fries, I did not like the fries. I prefer crispy fries. I also did not think they were well seasoned. I could not taste the salt at all. My daughter on the other hand, really liked the fries. She prefers fries to be on the softer side, so she ate the fries all up.

The last meal we ordered was a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The lettuce was crispy and the tomato was fresh. I appreciate when produce is kept fresh because there is nothing that will ruin a burger more when they are soft, soggy and warm!
The only bad thing about this burger, the bun was not toasted so the bottom bun started getting soft very quickly. As for the patty, it is thin, so if you like meat, you might want to order the double cheeseburger. The patty was bigger than the bun, which was a plus. We do wonder if they make their own patty's because it was seasoned well. My daughter said it was the best burger she has ever eaten, and she is not a big burger fan to begin with!
I couldn't find a website and their Facebook page is not a business account so you can't follow them-you have to friend them to see their posts. So I hope they convert over to a business account soon so they can start receiving reviews and improve their business and get a larger follower base.
All in all, we are not hyped about Vanessa's Soulful Cuisine. I always feel bad when I can't give everyone 5 stars...but it is what it is. We always look for that something different and they just didn't have anything that really stood out that pulls them apart from other food trucks. Don't get me wrong, their food is not gross and this is why we have myself and Eli rating because we give 2 different perspectives (and sometimes our kids).
Overall rating......
