This is Off The Hook!

The name speaks for itself people! First of all, I had been following this food truck for a while, but never had the chance to get to them yet (although I am pretty sure I have had their sister food truck Sweet Cold Treats).

What really stuck out to me when I was researching this food truck was their website. It is so fun! It is also organized and I really like the background story on how this food truck got started. It really does show, hard work pays off!

This is their menu. Ok, here is comes....this was extremely hard for us to read. I mean we can read it, but it is poorly taken care of. One it's weathered and two, you can tell the menu items are not rewritten daily (we came there about an hour after the food truck opened).

We ordered the 3 meats with fries (aka Around the World). When we ordered it, we were charged a $4 up charge for including flounder as one of the 3 meats. Why? I'm not sure, we were just told flounder was not included as a meat option. I think that should be noted on the menu.

We also ordered the tenders with fries and strawberry lemonade.

First off, messy hair, don't care! I just took off my hat because it was a windy day outside! Now, when we ordered the strawberry lemonade, I asked if it was homemade. The reply I received was "kinda sorta".

If there is one thing I have learned about living in the south, it is they love their sugar! They love it in their sweet tea and they love it in their sugar lemon water...I mean lemonade!

This drink is so sweet, I did not taste any lemonade or strawberry for that matter...so honestly, I'm not sure what I was drinking but I could not finish it because it was over the tope sweet....and I'm pretty sure I got a cavity from it! Just joking! Eli, he took one sip and almost fainted from a sugar rush!

This is the 3 meats with fries meal. Eli's face says it all! Holy cow, it's so big the box would not even close! Suggestion, upgrade to bigger boxes! First of all, we only received 2 meats, the wings and flounder. We also ordered shrimp, but we didn't even realize it till we were done eating and sitting their like idiots, wondering what happened to the shrimp and realizing neither of us ate it!

The good news is, we weren't charged the extra $4 for flounder like we were told...I'm actually starting to think there was some sort of miscommunication...which I blame fully on the weather, wearing masks and the generator! Whatever, we aren't mad about it, but it does suck.

Wings, they were crispy. It tasted like they had cajon flavor, but not a lot. We love cajon and wish that it was used more generously on those wings (actually if I'm wishing for things I would wish the wings had a cajon sauce on them). Eli doesn't mind dry, seasoned wings, so he did eat the majority of the wings.

The fries, those were a hit and miss. Some were crispy and some were soft. I blame that on the steam coming from both meats pilled on top of the fries. They were seasoned, but like the wings, I wish it was a little more generous in that cajon seasoning.

The flounder, OMG! That was probably the best fried and seasoned fish we have ever had! What we have noticed a lot is that food trucks forget or season very little when they fry their fish. That was not the case here and it was a breath of fresh air! I will also tell you, we are not big fans of everything fried, but we could eat that fried flounder probably weekly, it was amazing!

These are their chicken tenders. First of all, I like the size because they are all pretty much evenly proportioned. Why does that matter? Have you seen those tenders that are skinny at one end? What happens when we try to bite that end? It is too hard because it is over fried! These ones were not over fried and weren't overly crispy either. Yes, I like crispy, but with chicken, I want to be able to notice that what I am eating is chicken!

They were seasoned very well and even my son ate them up...and he is picky! The fries in this one though were all on the soft side, but I felt were seasoned better. I'm not sure how that happens but I could take a few guesses.

This is their table right outside the food truck. I like how they have all their condiments set out for their customers to grab (including the hidden napkins behind the bags). I don't like how we were handed food and then we had to bag it. Why? Because I almost dropped the 3 meat meal because it was so big and made it awkward to grab since it would not close.

I would also suggest, with covid happening right now, the condiments that we all touch, should be pre-packaged into their little container with lids. Germ fest kept running through my mind (which is probably true either way, but I look more for convenience).

The condiments we tried were the honey mustard, mambo sauce and BBQ. I'm not sure if any of these are homemade, but I hope so! The honey mustard was good and tasted like it had brown spicy mustard. The mambo sauce, I was not a fan of. We never had it before and when we asked what it was, we were told it was a sweet and spicy type of bbq. It was sweet, but not so much on the spicy side (but you could taste something savory). The BBQ, tasted like a traditional BBQ.

All in all, we did enjoy it. There were a few things that we thought could be better but we would definitely recommend them! You can check out their facebook page and their website to keep tabs on them! #foodtruckmania
