That's right, Walking Crab is a food truck based out of Garner, NC (actually it's a restaurant but we came across them as a food truck). We came across them in our little town of Madison while we were having our annual Christmas stroll and I will tell you right off that bat, the Walking Crab was our inspiration to start doing reviews on food trucks....that probably gives you a clue of what we think of them!
First of all, we thought it was amazing that a food truck would come almost 2 hours to a small town, not knowing how business would end up that day. We were attracted by their name, their fun logo and the fact that we LOVE all things seafood...especially crab!
Now, I was a little hesitant because sometimes when there is a seafood name, it doesn't always mean they have seafood. Food trucks are unique in the types of names they chose for their truck and I didn't know if they named it Walking Crab because maybe one day they were walking on a beach and they saw a crab walking and then boom, they decided to open a food truck! Ok, my imagination is pretty wild, but you get what I'm saying!
First reaction, whoa! They have prices that are higher than some seafood restaurants that are ocean side on the beach. If anyone knows me, you know I am cheap. If you know my husband, he is not cheap lol. I though for sure, if I was thinking they had high prices, in a small town, on a windy day, they would be leaving early....I was wrong! I definitely was hoping the best for them. We are in a pandemic, they are a small business and small town folks don't like to venture out too much and pay for what they don't know.
Our food did come out faster than the estimated time they gave us. The workers were fun to interact with, as we joked about them bringing fresh seafood straight from the ocean (a 4 hour drive from our town) and how it was made just for us! You could tell the love was put into their cooking and they enjoyed talking with their customers, which is key to getting not only a good review, but a good tip as well!

I ordered their lobster fries (pictured above). It was super cheesy, the fries were not soggy (indicating they were freshly fried and had not been sitting out) and there was a decent amount of lobster chunks in the white cheese sauce. It was full of flavor! I couldn't tell what kind of cheese, it did have a parmesan feel to it though. It was not runny, but not too thick either. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. It was a huge portion (for me at least considering I eat like a bird), it was hard to finish it all and I am ashamed to say I couldn't because it is so fulfilling!

My husband ordered the ultimate plate (pictured above). It's a boil with crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes. I don't know what they put in their butter seasoning sauce, but it is addicting and they give you extra! He didn't need the extra, but we took it home and ate it with other left overs. His order was so big, they couldn't even close the box all the way! Honestly, we didn't know that his order was going to come with all that extra goodness, so that was a nice surprise. When you crack open the crab legs, all that flavored butter comes out, so you know it was cooking in there for a long time and when you ate the crab, it tastes like the flavored butter sauce! The sausage was oozing with flavor too and the potatoes melted in your mouth. The only bad thing I would say is the corn was overcooked. It didn't have that nice crisp to it that you like when you eat corn on the cob. You guys, my husband is a pig (sorry honey, but you know it)! He had hard time finishing it and I think the only reason why he did finish it was because I was already full and we spent good money on it and he felt bad for thinking about throwing away good flavor!
For just the 2 of us, we spent almost $70, but that does include a good tip both card and going back to give cash (and get extra napkins), we loved it so much! Earlier I mentioned how they were more expensive than some seafood restaurants on the beach...well they 100% have more flavor than many of them too! We know they were down there the whole day (some food trucks only stay if their sales are good). I hope they did well in our small town. We heard lots of people talking about them afterwards, so they definitely made an impression and I hope they come back. They do own a restaurant in Garner, so if you live near there, go check them out! If not, keep an eye on their food truck. They are always posting where they will be on their Facebook page, so I encourage you to follow them. https://www.facebook.com/WalkingCrabSeafood #foodtruckmania
